The A-league gets underway this Thursday evening down in Melbourne with the Victory hosting the Central Coast Mariners. Make sure you tune into Coast FM 963 or www.coastfm.org.au  from 7pm for a season preview where we look at the chances of each side. Then at 8pm live commentary of the Central Coast Mariners first game this season aginst the defending champions Melbourne Victory. Trent Dickeson, Michael Kmet and Luke Byrne will call blow by blow the action from Docklands as the Mariners look to secure there first win of the season.

Melbourne Victory v Central Coast Mariners (Live on Coast FM 8pm) 6/8 Docklands, Melbourne- This is a tough start for Lawrie McKinna and his men as they try to break the winless streak dating back to December 31. The Mariners have made some key off season signings with Scottish Under 21 internationals Chris Doig and Michael McGlinchey expected to start. Doig will add a pressence in defence and should allow captain Alex Wilkinson to concentrate on his own game. Adam Kwasnik returns to partner last seasons  leading scorer Matt Simon up front. Melbourne have remained relatively the same squad from last season. Talk out of Melbourne is Archie Thompson is ready to set the league alight this season and his partnership with Danny Allsopp and Carlos Hernandez will be beautiful to watch. Central Coast have never won at Docklands and Archie Thompson is the leading goal scorer between these two clubs.

Prediction- Melbourne 2-1

Adelaide Reds v Perth Glory 7/8 Hindmarsh Satdium 8pm- Adelaide have a great record against the Glory but this is a different Perth side this season. Manager Dave Mitchell has been given money to spend and has used it wisely to bring back three current Socceroos to the A-League. Adelaide have lost a lot of experience in the off season and might struggle early.

Prediction- Draw 2-2

North Queensland Fury v Sydney FC 8/8 Townsville 5.30pm- Big test for Ian Ferguson and his team first up against a team predicted by many to finish in the finals. Fury supporters will hope to see Robbie Fowler and David Williams form a partnership up front leading to many goals throughout the season. Lavicka will be hoping to start his management career in the habour city with three points and it will be interesting to see what line up and formation he plays to start the season.

Prediction- Draw 0-0

Brisbane Roar v Gold Coast United 8/8 Lang Park 7.30- Wow what a week it has already been in the south east of Queensland. Miron doesn't want to talk to the media and Farina calling him a disgrace just adds more fuel to the fire in the first ever Queensland Derby. Queensland Roar have had a poor pre-season but are looking to turn it around at home on the first day of the season. Van Dijk, Miller and Nichols will be players that Miron needs to manage to get the three points. Current Socceroo Jason Culina enters the A-League this weekend and his class will guide the Gold Coast to many victories. If they want to go through the season undefeated it all starts Saturday night.

Prediction- Gold Coast 2-1

Newcastle Jets v Wellington Phoenix 9/8 Newcastle International Sports Ground 3pm- The final game sees two teams that need to start the season well as both are predicted to have long seasons. Newcastle still have not resolved the Fabio Vignaroli issue as there marquee whilst Ricki Herbert and his men will come here with some confidence after a good pre-season tour of China. Both teams have lots of new players and will be interesting to watch.

Prediction- Wellington 3-1

Dont forget to join our fantasy A-League Competition go to www.foxsports.com.au and enter the code 174-42. Enjoy Round 1 of Season 5 of the A-League.
