Baby Boomers - Thurday's from 8:00pm till 10:00pm

Coming up in August and September
We will cross a small expanse of water to the east and present a programme (2 parts) titled strangely enough "Across the Tasman" as we look at some of the well known - Alison Durbin, Dinah Lee and Max Merritt and the Meteors and lesser known - Bulldogs Allstar Goodtime Band, The Chicks and The Pleazers artists and bands that came out of the land of the long white cloud in the sixties and seventies.
Of course we are talking about New Zealand and over the years there has been an absolute wealth of talent from those two small islands, of course as soon as they stay in Australia and become famous we tend to adopt them as our own, think Dragon, Crowded House and Jon Stevens (Noiseworks).
We may even be able to catch up with Dinah Lee for a bit of a chat (sounds a little like a Peter Cooke and Dudlley Moore skit doesn't it?) and get one of our own presenters (and Chairperson) - Paul Greaves to join us on air for his recollections of some of artists and music that we will be featuring.
In future weeks Baby Boomers will highlight the life and career of one Charles Westover, we know him better as Del Shannon, he of the huge hits "Runaway" "Little Town Flirt" and "Hats off to Larry". Not only was Del an accomplished singer and musician he also wrote a number of songs that were hits for other artists including 'I Go to Pieces" for Peter and Gordon
Unfortunately Dels' career went thtrough varying stages of success, both highs and lows and in February 1990 he took his own life.
So as we celebrate the lifework and achievements of this remarkable entertainer in the 20th anniversary year of his passing we will be featuring some of his well known classics as well as his lesser known material recorded by other artists and his versions of other songwriters material.
Del was actually the first American recording artist to record a Lennon/McCartney composition when in 1963 he recorded his own version of "From Me to You" which actually became a hit in America and opened the doors somewhat for the Beatles and then the British Invasion that was to follow in 1964.
As always your input and participation is vital to our programme, so if you have any ideas of songs for inclusion in the Novelty Spot please let us know.
Basically the premise behind a novelty song is that it may have been a One Hit Wonder- think 'Stranded in the Jungle" by the Cadets or "May the Bird of Paradise Fly up your Nose' - Little Jimmy Dickens, but it also has to have the ingredients of slight stupidity of lyric or verse.
